Wishing all our readers a safe and happy new year! - Krystal
We will be emailing another update to you about our year and our plans for 2024 with a special announcement, but I wanted to share with you our list of events for New Year's Eve. Readers have reached out for recommendations about low-key things to do for people who are not into the New Year's Eve party scene.
Here's what is happening in the Princeton area:
Holiday Carillon Bell Bash. Recitals are held rain or shine and are always free at the Cleveland Tower. The tower is at the Graduate College at 33 College Road West in Princeton. 1 p.m.
Singing led by the Solidarity Singers of the NJ Industrial Union Council, a long-standing group that sings in support of workers, unions, peace, and justice. Led by Bennet Zurofsky on the guitar, the group has performed on picket lines, at demonstrations, in coffee houses, and in concert halls. Bring your song suggestions to "Stump the Singers." Free. Candlelight peace vigil and light dinner follow. 4 p.m. at the Trenton Friends Meeting House.
With European singers, dancers, and a full orchestra with timeless music, dazzling costumes, breathtaking dance, and stunning floral designs, Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert returns to State Theatre New Jersey for an unforgettable New Year’s celebration. 5 p.m. at the State Theatre.
The Hogmanay Bonfire has been a tradition for the Lawrence Historical Society since 1997. The bonfire itself will be lit promptly at 6 p.m. and a bagpiper will be on hand to entertain attendees. Attendees are invited to prepare a list of bad memories from 2023 to throw into the bonfire. Paper and pencils will be available in case anyone wants to compile a list at the event. Parking will be offsite at the Corporate Center on Lenox Drive. 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brearley House.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve with the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey. This concert will feature a world premiere by composer John Dickson and Richard Strauss’s Don Juan and then we’ll get the party started with Johann Strauss, Gershwin, and Richard Rogers. 8 p.m. at the Patriots Theater at the Trenton War Memorial.
